The Simple and Cozy Christmas Cottage

Cottage Style is categorized by a certain, simple charm and this home certainly delivers!

Christmas decorating doesn’t have to be complicated and overdone in order to be festive. Take this beautiful cottage nestled in the mountains of East Tennessee as an example. Realistic faux greenery, accents of Christmas red, and natural wood touches are all it takes to transform this home into a Magical Christmas Cottage! Join me as we tour this home together!

Start at the front door:

The Holiday feeling begins right at the front door with two simple swags hanging from the Lantern lights. We simply and easily coordinated the look onto the front door with a wreath made in similar greenery and matching bows.

Beautiful ribbon is one of my favorite items to utizlize when it comes to decorating the entire house because it is so easy to use in many places to tie the overall look together. One bolt of ribbon can accent a front door wreath, the top of your tree, your mantle, and still have a few pieces to tuck into your dining room centerpiece! Talk about bang for your buck!

The ribbon used here is a burlap base with red berries printed on top. Simple, natural, and winter themed as opposed to Christmas, so you can leave it up all the way through February! You can find a similar style here: Woodland Pinecones with Berries Linen Burlap Wired Ribbon 40 – 2.5″ x 10 yards.

Once you step through the front door you are greeted with an open and airy floorplan that draws you into the space. This client asked for a simple focal point for her holiday home and we selected the mantle. By selecting a focal point in the center of this open space, we were able to really make a statement without overwhelming the small floor plan.   Cottage Christmas Mantle Open Living Room

Wow does that mantle pop! Simple white candlesticks add height while red mercurty glass vases filled with realistic looking greenery add holiday touches withoug a Santa in sight. My favorite part of this mantle is the low wooden tray that fills the center of the mantle. We simply filled the tray with inexpensive glass ornaments, some greenery balls and a few hydrangea heads. Instant centerpiece!

To add some simple, yet impressive WOW factor to your mantle this year, consider adding some over-size candlesticks or red mercury glass vases to your decor. All you have to do is tuck in some greenery and floral elements and you have a Cottage classic mantle in a flash!

This client decided not to put up a Christmas tree since she usually spent the holiday away with family, but there are several styles of trees that would accentuate this classic cottage decor. Simple red and green accents on a real fir tree would add a natural touch to the space, while a rustic farmhouse style Southern tree would add an extra layer of charm. Even a table-top sized kitchen tree on the center island would add whimsy and fun while not overwhelming the space.

Before we leave, let’s thank our hostess for opening her charming Cottage Style Chrismtas home to us, and until next year, Merry Christmas!
